Mastodon is 100% the early days of social media all over. Some of you will already be familiar with this story.

My weather station (a very nice Netatmo that has served very well) crapped out after nearly 10 years of excellent service. I asked for recommendations here for a new station that would play nicely with #HomeAssistant, and hopefully, also HomeKit. I received *many* recommendations, with Ecowitt (and the brands it manufactures for) taking the lead.

A connection on here offered me their *unopened* Ecowitt weather station for a very generous price. It arrived yesterday, and I set it up, and it's already doing a great job. Works offline, talks to Home Assistant without any problems. I just need to do a couple of bits of configuration jiggery-pokery and it will pass data to HomeKit.

This is very much how things were when I first joined Twitter in 2007. In spite of attempts at #enshittification of everything, the #fediverse is putting up a good fight.

LATER EDIT: I’ve been thinking, and I do realise this good experience isn’t necessarily what happens for everyone. Captain’s Log: Sweetmorn, the 71st day of Chaos, YOLD 3192

Upgraded the GravityWell’s internet connection to full 1Gb/s. Most stuff is already on the VPS with shared 10Gbps, but this should improve things for Jellyfin, Peertube, and various other streaming stuff and large file downloads.

Setup a new VM with working backups of all the services and planning to have a second one setup just for testing and deploying new things. Hopefully it will mean less things breaking in production.

Will be deploying various different “Discord alternatives”, Stoat/Revolt, Flux, etc for folks to check out and test with. Either they will eventually be bridged -or- removed depending on what people think of them and how well the run.

I’m not actually sure if this works but If anyone else wants to try it out and give me feedback feel free.

This might be a really #unpopularopinion / #badtake but I think we should run with the narrative of making voting harder, but not by requiring two forms of ID, I think you should be able to pass a basic Civics test of some kind.

I know 100+ years ago it was used to mostly disenfranchise black voters, but in 2026 we all have access to pretty much the sum of all human knowledge, if someone wants to learn they can learn. You have to study for a license to drive a car, you should be able to study for a right to select the people who will be driving our country.

And before you come at me about how this would be more negative towards this or that minority group, I want you to watch (in entiretly) a complete video by the right wing “journalist” ‘Nick Shirley’ who brought you such stories as: going to a random daycare with a camera and demanding to be let in so you can see the children. When you see how incredibly dumb these people are,when you see that its not bad faith, they are actually just unable to think critically and are really that fucking stupid, i think you’ll see what im getting at.

Although if even the dumbest mouth breathers still have a “right” to vote, maybe we should just count their vote 3/5ths as much as those who can pass a civics test… I think that’d be fair.

If Trump gives up and runs away, it might make sense for #Iran to go harder on US bases (carefully) and Israel with the indirect support of Russia and China. Appeal to the people of Arab nations to rise up against their dictators. Embarrass the western empire. End it.

Feishin really does a good job with auto DJ, its not perfect but it beats the hell out of using corpo streaming services.

I think NaviDrome is whats actually doing the work, unfortunately Jellyfin doesn’t do nearly as good a job.
