Give a command to one, move to the next while it works… Am i “technically” more productive, i guess so, these are projects i would not even dream of attempting myself, IM not interested in learning to code beyond the basic level i already can, i would rather idk, do things…

Riptide service is now online. This is a new custom service that performs meta search across various audio streaming providers and can download the best available quality of albums or even entire discographies, which then gets imported into NaviDrome’s Library.

Major update: Last week the CPU in our primary media server was replaced and we FINALLY resolved the issue of the system locking up. So as of now the GravityWell JellyFin is officially back up.

In the very long process of troubleshooting this issue down to the very last part we could replace without calling it a “new” computer, all the other services migrated to other systems ( cluster of 3 old laptops i had laying around). Some of these “cloned” services will continue to exist on the throbbing.click domain, and over time I will continue to revive the gravitywell equivalents at a pace that i feel comfortable with.

As for the updates/fixes, we have a new Ryzen 9 9500XT, 16c/32t, and the Operating System has been migrated from ArchlLinux to Debian. While I’m still sticking with arch (cachyOS Specifically), for my personal desktop, I have too many systems to admin at this point Debian is what I know best and its (testing/sid is) a much slower rolling release.

Lastly for now, I’ll probably make a dedicated post about this later but RipTide is a little project i’ve been vibe coding (without paying shit to AI companies) to make downloading music easier. Currently it supports Tidal, Qobuz and BandCamp, with plans for more soon. The main purpose for it is importing to the gravitywell library but I see no reason not to also allow downloading too. It’s not really finished yet, but its mostly functional enough to be worth checking out.

It amuses me how half assed every single corps “anti bot” or “anti fraud” systems work. Like they are so easily triggered for false positives and so not ever triggered when i’m actually scraping massive amounts of content from their services. And then when they do “catch” something they think is unwanted they try to stop it by just blocking the IP address.

I’m doing this shit for entertainment and I have like 300 VPN servers and pretty much unlimited residential proxy access, If i wanted to do harm, or scrape your web service, there is nothing your underpaid and unmotivated IT staff can do to stop me.

I can just Imagine how easy it is for actual criminals wanting to do actual crimes like stealing personal information.

Why don’t any of these corps selling PCs just go back to DDR4. Its literally half the price, CPUs are cheaper too, but both still well stocked and in production.

When DDR4 came out no one gave a shit because DD3 was already “good enough” for most people. RAM was already good enough for the average PC user in the early 00s.

No game requires DDR5 or even noticably would benefit from having DDR5 speeds over DDR5 the difference is not something humans could even notice.

Turns out it was the CPU! I wasn’t planning on upgrading to more cores but price wise CPUs aren’t nearly as bad as things are with RAM or GPUs.

So Cthulhu now has a 16c32t Ryzen 9 5900XT to go along with its 64gb of ram.

I’ve sort of settled on using the n0g.xyz domain i registerd for my testing stuff, things I want to messwith and probably break without having to affect the ones in production for GW and other domains.

Kinda leaning toward letting the ugh.im domain expire if i can’t get it moved to porkbun, just not really worth the hassle even if it is a fairly short domain, n0g.xyz is only one more character and aside from akkoma and matrix i dont have anything else running on ugh anymore. TIL you can just use “systemd-boot” even for distros that otherwise don’t support systemd.

Why would i want that? because I’m lazy and systemd-boot typically requires the least steps so its what i use if im doing bootstrap installations.

I now suspect the Realtek NIC i added might be the issue and the reason freezes are infrequent is that they happen under only heavy connection loads (more then IPerf3 can produce)

After ruling out nearly everything else (Memtest Passed, BIOS updated, ), I switched from a 2.5G NIC to the onboard 1Gb NIC. I’ve performed extensive stress testing on CPU, GPU, and RAID under full load but couldn’t intentionally trigger a freeze. The server has been stable for ~24 hours.

I just re-enabled Jellyfin. If it stays up with the slower NIC, I’ll stick with 1Gb for now due to high hardware prices.

Weighed myself today, 290, down from 350 this time last year… Peptides work ya’ll.

Well this is not so great, think jellyfin itself is whats causing instability on the (older) media server 😭 the system stays up without problems if I keep all the services off but with jfin running it ends up crashing within some hours. My best guess is this happens due to the large size of the library.

I just don’t really see how a docker could be doing that, esp since its not spiking CPU or mem usage when it happens… Possibly its a power thing and it happens when the fin tries to do some sort of scan of the entire library that triggers a surge but IDK.

passed memtest, updated bios, did all the things, had it stable and runing for like 2 days, then i turned docker and jellyfin back on, next morning i get up to it frozen… 🤦

For now please use Jelly.Throbbing.Click which is on different hardware and has a smaller library (seerr is also setup for requests there).
