Weβve been seeing the writing on the wall for a lot of this stuff for years, but for the vast majority of people, they just dont notice until it directly affects them or whatever subgroup of people they associate with, and by that point its generally too late.
Someone was telling me about how walmart is selling data specifically regarding womens healthcare and reproductive rights, and I pointed out that, yeah thats why itβs important to care about what companies do with your data, but the real problem isnt that walmart is suddenly deciding to betray women, its that they have a financial incentive to sell any and all data they can possibly collect about people.
Itβs not that I think the issue they highlighted isnβt a serious one, Its just that the underlying issue has been there for years and will only get worse. It doenβt JUST affect that one group, its only that because this person is part of that group they are suddenly more concerned about it.
Its discouraging to me how often people are unwilling to not just hear a differing opinion, but wonβt even tolerate someone valuing something differently from them. IE: The only thing that matters to some people is X, anyone who thinks Y is more important then X isnβt worth engaging with.
I see this constantly when i point out how the root cause of most things is actually capitalism.
Iβve reached the watching log files this morning and finding new bot useragents to block level of sysadminning
Generative AI wouldnt be such a βthreatβ if capitalism didnβt already ruin the idea of just doing things for a passion instead of profit, but instead of realizing this most people just endlessly debate about how it is or isnt βstealingββ¦.
As if we didnβt already learn this lesson 2 decades ago #COPYINGISNOTTHEFT
There are other problems with LLMs, but to get mad at them for βstealingβ is hypocritical and ignores the actual root of the problem which is that capitalism is ruining Art and everything else by making it only about how much profit you can derive from it.
A friend sent this to me and its pretty wild how this sounds both insane and very much could be true, we are living in a horrible timeline.
Really the only reason I stopped using minimal window managers like i3 and wmaker was just to make use of all this extra ram i find myself having these days.
It used to be neat seeing how much stuff i could squeeze into less than a gig of ram, but I think after the 1GB mark all the extra memory has somewhat diminishing returns.
Iβm not even really that big on themes i just want βdarkβ and the issue was causing it to be βlightβ or βdark with icons you canβt seeβ, and somehow replaced the KDE logo in the menu with the Gnome Foot which honestly made me think it was some kind of elaborate prank.
I reinstalled the OS on my laptop the other day, mainly because an update to qt6 kept breaking themes completely no matter what i did and reinstalling was easier than figuring out the themeing issue.
There where other minor issues too, like it asking me to input my encrpytion passphrase twice on every boot, but the last straw was the themes.
Sometimes itβs just easier to start over instead of figuring out why things are broken.
One very real first world problem i struggle with is always thinking of one more project to tackle before i go back to playing video games.
I have to do some things involving a debian server (re)install, but I also want to play the game i bought last week, and these 2 things are equal amounts of βentertainingβ in my mind. I also am constantly second guessing if i should re-organize my files, the answer to that is always βyes, but howβ
I suppose maybe im the only person who still prefers good ole #MidnightCommander to other file managers but TIL mc has absolutely terrible handling extracting 7z files which has been my prefered backup format for the past could of years.
Something to do with extfs and the extraction command needing to run on each file rather then the archive as a whole.. I dont really understand it but the end result is that archives with lots of small files like .log or .jpgs will just slow to a crawl.
So i guess Iβm going to switch back to Tarballs. My reason for using 7z originally was based on how it worked from command line. Its not like I canβt just manually extract the files, but if Iβm using MC then i kind of expect a certain type of behavior.
Ah well
HedgeDoc is now up at hd.ugh.im.
PrivateBin is now up and can be accessed on either privbin.gravitywell.xyz or pb.ugh.im. This is running on an alternate server at the moment but it will be moved to the main one.
LibRed is setup, it seems to need frequent restarting and updating though.
Iβm planning to put together some basic screencasts as I deploy various services. Iβll probably work on something with a general overview of gravitywell and how things are setup first.
OpenSpeedTest has been running for a while but I realized I didnβt have links up for it.
I tried to get Invidious working but it wasnβt playing videos so i took it down until i feel like messing with it again.
Piped is now setup on both GravityWell and Ugh.im
A quick shout out to Libredirect which I plan to impliment as many services for as i can.
Oops, forgot to change the download destination on Tidal-DL and ended up filling up the root partition over night,
Setting up a personal matrix server today, donβt have the resources to make a public one at the moment but weβll get there.
@libreleah I give XLibre a year before the whole thing loses steam. Sure there are other merits to it as a fork, but first and foremost it has become known as the βAnti-DEIβ fork, the kind of devs thatβs going to attract are not the ones who make useful contributions, theyβre the ones who got kicked out of other projects for being assholes.
Setup a more basic style, Iβve added different color scheme options. Added some new frontends for jellyfin. Funkwhale is now 2.0-alpha and mstream and NaviDrome are also available with the same library. GravityWell.xyz
Itβs nice to hear from a real cypherpunk on the subject.
Darknet Market Maximalism A Manifesto By Xenu
It only just recently occurred to me that i can get certificates for both gravitywell.xyz and ugh.im in one go and have the domains resolve to the same services. So Iβll probably start giving everything both a βshortβ ugh.im and a long βgravitywell.xyzβ subdomain for services that it might be useful on.
