@TheZeldaZone I think you're right that it wasn't a good time for the game, though I think rpgs were actually coming into their hayday at the time, but it was very much an outlier in its genre so it didn't benefit it.

But I do think the marketing failed the game, just not in the sense that it was bad, but that it wasn't very aggressively pursued. I was an avid Nintendo Power reader at the time and I don't recall it getting the kind if long term blitz that most Nintendo published games got. I just don't think noa was very convinced.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if retailers just didn't really want to shelve the giant box tbh.

Yeah it wasnt bad marketing so much as lack of marketing because Americans didnt care for jrpgs at the time, i dont think it got hardly any tv ads and not even a lot of promo in mags.

The first big JRPG i remember actually getting a heavy add campaign in america was FF 7 or 8.
