successfully migrated from Nginx Proxy Manager to Traefik tonight.

Wish i had done it before i had 50+ services and 30+ subdomains, but better late then never. The main advantage to this over NPM is traefik has better integration with docker and can use labels to setup the subdomains automatically instead of having to manually setup each subdomain in nginx.

@eff Its not JUST about control, its also about making it so that advertisers can have a way to tell who the humans are, think about it, would meta and them all WANT to age gate when they know their product is addicting to children? Of course not, they just see the writing on the wall when it comes to the dead internet. Imagine how much more they will be able to charge for ID verified impressions and ad views.

Remember how we used to actually make use of space with desktop GUIs? I know there were some absolutely terrible ones, but we had limited screen real-estate and would present as much information as we could.

Now it's like... welp guess we'll make an absolutely abysmal garbage design but it's OK because everybody has large monitors or something.

My weather station (a very nice Netatmo that has served very well) crapped out after nearly 10 years of excellent service. I asked for recommendations here for a new station that would play nicely with #HomeAssistant, and hopefully, also HomeKit. I received *many* recommendations, with Ecowitt (and the brands it manufactures for) taking the lead.

A connection on here offered me their *unopened* Ecowitt weather station for a very generous price. It arrived yesterday, and I set it up, and it's already doing a great job. Works offline, talks to Home Assistant without any problems. I just need to do a couple of bits of configuration jiggery-pokery and it will pass data to HomeKit.

This is very much how things were when I first joined Twitter in 2007. In spite of attempts at #enshittification of everything, the #fediverse is putting up a good fight.

LATER EDIT: I’ve been thinking, and I do realise this good experience isn’t necessarily what happens for everyone. Its Not an ideal solution but i recently realized peertube (which uses ytdlp) can also import tiktok feeds. If you have specific creators you want to follow on tiktok you can follow them on peertube instead.

Captain’s Log: Sweetmorn, the 71st day of Chaos, YOLD 3192

Upgraded the GravityWell’s internet connection to full 1Gb/s. Most stuff is already on the VPS with shared 10Gbps, but this should improve things for Jellyfin, Peertube, and various other streaming stuff and large file downloads.

Setup a new VM with working backups of all the services and planning to have a second one setup just for testing and deploying new things. Hopefully it will mean less things breaking in production.

Will be deploying various different “Discord alternatives”, Stoat/Revolt, Flux, etc for folks to check out and test with. Either they will eventually be bridged -or- removed depending on what people think of them and how well the run.
